post Watch our film on deforestation

Viscose is a key material for us at Stella McCartney and one of the most used fabrics in the world. Originating from trees and often from endangered forests, we are pleased to share that our viscose now comes from sustainably certified forests in Sweden.

Every year the equivalent of over 48,000 football pitches of trees are logged for viscose fabric production and it’s within these ancient forests that huge amounts of carbon are stored, helping to keep our planet’s climate stable. Another serious impact of deforestation is the loss of habitat for millions of species of plants and animals. All wildlife need their homes protected, which is why we’re working with our NGO partner Canopy Planet, to protect our forests form ending up in fabrics like viscose.

Watch as Carmen Kass takes on habitat loss, sustainable sourcing, carbon storage, alternative fabric options and makes a case for forest conservation.

Head to Canopy Planet to find out more and read about the results of our 2015 Environmental Profit and Loss Account visit.
