Met Gala 2023: Behind the scenes with Stella
Stella was joined by Madelyn Cline and Aubrey Plaza at the Met Gala 2023, each wearing custom Stella McCartney gowns and tailoring inspired by the Winter 2023 collection and the event's theme – 'Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty'. Platforming responsible materials as part of our future of fashion vision and supporting next-gen talent, the designs were handcrafted at our London atelier. This year, Stella was joined by Madelyn Cline, actor, animal lover and star of our Summer 2023 shoot. Her floor-sweeping, shoulder-less gown is crafted from black forest-friendly viscose velvet. It features panels of metal fringing, hand-applied onto forest-friendly viscose and Naia™️ acetate stretch cady. Our forest-friendly viscose and acetate cady is sourced from responsibly managed forests to ensure no deforestation of ancient and endangered forests.
Aubrey Plaza, star of The White Lotus, wore a custom white dress inspired by evening wear in our Winter 2023 runway collection. The asymmetric gown is made with forest-friendly viscose jersey, hand-sculpted with lead-free crystal-embellished ropes framing sexy cut-outs at the chest and waist.
Stella wore custom hourglass Savile Row tailoring aligned with our Winter 2023 runway collection, featuring a moulded silhouette and exaggerated shoulders. The oversized double-breasted blazer was consciously cut from RWS-certified wool to ensure the most stringent animal welfare, land management and social responsibility requirements have been met. It shimmered with hand-applied lead-free crystals and was lined with traceable forest-friendly viscose.
Stella McCartney, Baz Luhrmann and Casamigos hosted a joint Met Gala after-party at Zero Bond in New York City. Guests enjoyed signature tequila cocktails and a selection of organic white, red and sparkling wine courtesy of Avaline. With music by DJ Agathe Mougin and Daisy O’Dell, it was a celebration of Karl Lagerfeld.
