Tailoring
During her years as student at Central Saint Martins, Stella McCartney was tutored in the foundations of
British fashion by iconic Savile Row tailor Edward Sexton – her father’s celebrated suit-maker. Inspired
by her parents’ stage-wear and shared wardrobe, she has continued to build ageless, genderless and fluid
collections around tailoring ever since her runway debut in 2002.
Playing with proportions and a variety of colour palettes, Stella crafts fitted double-breasted blazers
cinched with vegan harnesses over explosive, voluminous A-line trousers – delivering an experimental
edginess inspired by digital subcultures. Her more classic suits are considered in construction; the
blazers sharply tailored with strong shoulders, the trousers pristinely pleated and cut at just the
right ankle length. Strong enough to stand alone but even better together, you can wear each piece
individually or as a pair.
