During this moment of conscious movements, a new generation is coming together to stand up for its beliefs and get down on the dancefloor. Inspired by ‘Y is for Youth’ from the McCartney A to Z, Spring 2022 reflects this renewal and a return to (night)life – rewriting cyberpunk codes for Stella women living in the moment and mindful of tomorrow. They are expressive of their values, energetic in their passions and liberated in their sexuality, captured in an effortless wardrobe materialising next-gen optimism, sensuality and humour.
Spring 2022 blends the nostalgic with the futuristic, connecting Y2K music subcultures to the digital youth of today and hacking into the experimental edginess of raver and club kid aesthetics. It harmonises innovative materials, technical details and voluminous shapes against skin-tight, ultra-short silhouettes – made with 71% eco-friendly fabrics. This edge is softened by fluoro pastels in a saturated and vibrant palette, advanced by technology-inspired moments of reflective silver and high-shine black.
Highlights include exaggerated A-line raver pants juxtaposed with scuba corsets and cropped, tight Refibra™️ cut-out tops. This youthful irreverence is elaborated on by cartoonish animals on jersey and brightly contrasted encrusted lace and hot-fix diamond embroidery. Knitwear balances the sartorial with the sensual, captured in unexpected details on form-fitting, ruched dresses – contrasted in shape by structural outerwear and dresses created from a vibrant, lightweight recycled polyester faille.
Continuing this sculptural perspective are dresses with exposed lace, oversized outerwear and tiny cropped t-shirts crafted from scuba. Dresses and corsets are made from a similar forest-friendly viscose evening cady blending sportiness and sexiness, while recycled polyester Teddy Mat fleece and Sorona® based quilting, with a recycled nylon outer filled with 37% plant-based padding, ground the collection.
A modern psychedelia trips out across fluid ‘Smile’ and ‘Keep on Smiling’ messages on ombre multicoloured pieces alongside wavy ‘Stella McCartney’ graphics in velvet on skin-tight tops and skirts. This brightness continues on timeless Savile Row tailoring, reimagined in clean neon shades and dichotomies of extreme proportion.
Our vegan, iconic Falabella tote is updated in studded, iridescent editions as well as early 2000s mini bags. The Frayme is seen as a smaller and medium-sized flap bag in a pastel palette on embossed croc and smooth Alter Mat, while the Logo returns as a shoulder bag.
New for Spring 2022, the Shroom is a sculptural footwear family blending cyber, artistic and athletic influences. Continuing a countercultural energy are Vibram-soled Trace studded sandals, alongside the Emilie as a military work boot and Mary Jane shoe.
Eyewear focuses seasonal themes, embodied in exaggerated, flat-topped wrap mask sunglasses taking cues from cyberpunk futurism – made with bio-lenses created from natural, renewable materials. Continuing this Y2K visual narrative are bucket hats with sporty logo taping and the Stella McCartney 2001 motif.
