post Artists, free-spirits, collectors: The Summer 2020 Runway Show

The Summer 2020 collection was unveiled on the runway today in Paris’ Opéra Garnier, inspired by women, past, present and future, who aren’t afraid to make the world their own.

An ode to wild women, risk takers and those who shine their light bravely, the collection clashes natural beauty with modernity, fluid with graphic and eccentricity with simplicity, to build up structure and break it down—expressing strength of heart and a defiant spirit.

Continuing to push our eco practices even further, we celebrate this collection as our most sustainable ever, with over 75% of the ready-to-wear made from environmentally-friendly materials. 90% of all of the cotton used is organic, and 100% of the denim, while accessories introduce hemp and sustainable raffia.

Special guests joined the crowd, including Vivienne Westwood, Anna Wintour, Maisie Williams, Iris Law, Carine Roitfeld and Ellie Goulding, as models charged down the runway to another energetic playlist of tracks like ‘My Power’ by Tierra Whack, Beyoncé and Moonchild, ‘Right Now’ by Anti Up, Chris Lake and Chris Lorenzo and ‘Like a Girl’ by Will Clarke and Nick Monaco.

Bold stripes are a defining statement throughout, but are then sliced by cut-outs and silhouettes that reveal unexpected circular pattern cutting. This shape is also represented in this season’s hero bag, hand woven onto a metal frame. A guiding force for Stella, the circular symbol represents life, vitality and femininity.

Photographic florals are personal memories from Stella—captured on her bike rides through the English countryside—while reimaginations of the power suit cast us back to her early Savile Row tailoring. These intentionally mismatched pieces are made from Japanese recycled polyester for a sharpness and a luxurious sheen. Embroidery ushers in a sense of artistry and eccentricity.
